Edna Swart’s epic wedding | women’s day

The reality TV star married the man of her dreams in a dramatic ceremony

As the huge doors of Auckland wedding venue The Glass House swing open to reveal a black Lamborghini, the eyes of the gathered guests are drawn to handsome groom Reid Stephen, who emerges from the sleek vehicle in a bespoke Rembrandt suit.

The crowd then turns to follow her gaze to the back of the room and gasps are heard as the beautiful bride, Celebrity Treasure Island runner-up Edna Swart, appears in a custom Trish Peng gown with a dramatic side slit that perfectly shows off her strappy Jimmy Choo stilettos.

Dotted with three-dimensional flowers, the off-the-shoulder gown with a romantic flared skirt and train mirrors the white rose petals strewn down the aisle, illuminated by a forest of candles.

“I wanted drama – and I think we got it!” said Edna, 32, speaking to women’s day shortly after the breathtaking ceremony. “I even snuck into the kitchen to make my surprise entrance!”
The reality TV star had her heart set on an epic dress to match her big reveal and couldn’t be happier with her choice. “Everyone expected me to wear a super tight dress, but it was the only day I grew up!” Edna smiled.

And what makes it even more amazing is the fact that the Boss Babes star and Ed&I skincare entrepreneur planned not just her dream dress, but the entire wedding, in just four months. “We got engaged on January 8 and we just didn’t want to wait,” says Edna, who met Reid, 27, in February 2021 when she responded to a TradeMe ad looking for a roommate.

“We wanted to get married on our first anniversary and April 30 was the date of the housewarming party where I first kissed Reid, but May 1 was the closest wedding date we could make. But then, looking through our old posts, we realized our first kiss happened at 2am on the 1st, so we ended up getting married on our anniversary after all!”

With just four months to do it all, Edna made some lightning fast choices, including deciding on her all-important wedding dress design in less than 24 hours! “I’m so proud of how it all turned out,” the South African-born star said. “We didn’t do anything traditional or expected.”

Nodding, Reid agrees, “For example, we took our photos before the ceremony, so it was the first time I saw Edna in her dress. The photographer made me wait facing a wall while Ed walked in. I was nervous, but when I turned around, she was just gorgeous. I couldn’t imagine a prettier dress or bride. We spent the entire shoot whispering sweet nothings to each other. ear.

The Auckland couple chose their venue for its indoor-outdoor flow, decorating the interior with dramatically draped fabrics and elegant chandeliers, all centered around a spectacular installation by luxury candle company Revel & Light. “I wanted our guests to feel like they had been taken to a magical, romantic place,” says Edna.

One of her most memorable moments from the intimate 80-person event was when her father Morkel helped her rearrange her veil and ‘puff up’ her dress as she prepared to walk down the aisle. .

“My dad was so nice,” Edna recalls. “I was a little nervous and he calmed me down by saying, ‘Enjoy it and take a deep breath. You could see he felt great! Dad and I also had a moment when I put on my wedding dress for the first time. I started crying and so did he! It was really nice.

What made this even more poignant for Edna, who was adopted as a baby, was that she had spent the preparation for her big day thinking a lot about her adoptive mother Sandra, who died when she was only 17 years old.

“Obviously I couldn’t have my mom at my wedding like most brides, but she was there in spirit. She had these 3D flowers on her veil when she married my dad and Trish Peng was able to put them on. my dress. little detail connecting me to mum made it even more special.”

With his best man, younger brother Connor, by his side, Reid watched his beautiful wife walk towards him to the sound of the song. From the ground by Dan + Shay.

“She was so beautiful,” the Christchurch-born Hirepool manager recalled. “She had this big nerdy smile on her face, smiling all the time.”

After exchanging their heartfelt, self-written vows, the beaming newlyweds mingled with their guests — including Edna’s Treasure Island co-star Kimberley Crossman and fellow Boss Babes Iyia Liu — drinking cocktails and showing off their all new rings, designed by Adrian Turner of Fifth Avenue Diamond Experts, who also made Edna’s stunning engagement ring.
Reid’s matte gold ring is inscribed inside with the words ‘until death’ and a small design of bones – a joke for the couple, who got matching bone tattoos after getting together be engaged to symbolize their undying love.

Meanwhile, Edna’s surprise arrival and her stunning dress weren’t the only dramatic moments on the wedding day. Amid the speeches, a small fire in the kitchen set off deafening alarms and guests had to be evacuated from the venue when four massive fire engines arrived.

Edna laughs, “At first I was like, ‘Noooo!’ But it actually turned out really fun! We did a photo shoot in front of the fire truck, which looks epic, and in the end We were only there for about 10 minutes, so it didn’t matter. Of course, with me, there’s always a little drama!”

Back in the building, after a sumptuous wedding dinner of ceviche and steak, the bride and groom had one last surprise up their sleeve.

As they finished their elegant slow dance to In case you don’t know by Brett Young, a scratch sounds and the couple begins a choreographed dance for you are the one i want from Fat!

“She’s the sexiest dancer, so that was really cute,” recalled Edna, who performed a mid-show costume change, removing her full skirt for a sheer, feathered Trish Peng mini dress.

“It was the perfect intro for anyone who came onto the dance floor. It was such a magical night. It’s overwhelming. My heart is so full. It’s so rare for everyone you love and respect being in the same room.”

Of course, there were important people missing from that special day, including Edna’s birth mother, who couldn’t travel for the wedding. However, she will soon be able to congratulate the couple in person as Edna and Reid will travel to South Africa after their honeymoon on Italy’s Amalfi Coast in June.

“We just want to enjoy being married,” smiles Edna. “This year it looks like a lot of traveling and then at the end of next year we’ll probably be thinking about trying to have a baby, but I don’t want to put any expectations on it. Reid’s mum is pushing for as many grandchildren as possible, but we’ll start with one – hopefully a girl – and then we’ll see!”
