Elton John goes punk for the royal wedding on ‘SNL’

Elton John hosted Saturday Night Live in 2011, and at that time it was about a month away from the big royal wedding between Prince William and Kate Middleton. All the preparation for the wedding was the subject of a very amusing skit.

In the sketch, Sir Elton meets Queen Elizabeth II (Fred Armisen) and Prince Philip (Bill Hader) to ask him what song they want him to sing at Prince William’s (Andy Samberg) wedding. The Queen and Prince Philip are as usual soft-spoken in front of Prince William, but when William leaves the room, things take a turn.

The Queen and Prince Philip turn into rude punks and criticize Sir Elton for his song recommendations, much to John’s surprise.

“What does it make of Elton?” How does it feel not to be the craziest queen in the room? said the queen. “It’s a bit refreshing, honestly,” Elton replies.

The skit then turns into a punk jam that includes pogo galore. Truth be told, Sir Elton’s punk voice is pretty awesome!
