If there is one bright spot in coming out of the Covid-19 pandemic, it’s that we now realize how much we took for granted.
An evening, a weekend, a coffee with the best friends – after the last 19 months, we now know how important and precious these moments are.
Of course, nothing is more important than family, especially when a big milestone arrives.
There have been so many special moments not celebrated over the past year and more – birthdays, christenings, promotions and of course, birthdays.
Last weekend the McCrory family finally got the chance to meet for a very important celebration – the 50th wedding anniversary of my mom and dad.
Married on October 16, 1971 at St Teresa’s Church on Glen Road in Andersonstown, Susan Winchester married Desmond McCrory.
The couple then had their reception at the Woodburn Hotel, which exploded a few weeks later during the Troubles.
And after enjoying a honeymoon amidst the bright lights of London, the couple returned home to reality.
Over the years they have had four children – Damien, myself, Jennifer and Colm – and we have all had a wonderful family vacation in places like Tramore, Salthill and Bundoran.
And now they have six grandchildren, Reece, Mia, Abbie, James, Alaia, and Cian, who help them make some great new memories.
After working their entire lives, the two have now retired and are embarking on a more relaxed path.
Of course, on the weekends they both had fun in The Felons on Andersonstown Road, where we had all gathered to celebrate their golden wedding anniversary.
It was nice to see everyone getting dressed for a happy occasion, which has been rare lately.
It was just great to reunite with aunts, uncles, cousins ââand friends that we haven’t really had the chance to see in the past 19 months.
Neighbors and friends also joined Sue and Desi in celebrating the happy occasion and with a great buffet on offer everyone had a great time.
After a few glasses of champagne, it was time for the couple to cut out a special cake again and everyone shared this special moment, which took place alongside photos from their wedding, showing the many beloved faces that do are more with us, but I’m sure they were looking out for all of us.
It was nice to be able to create some new special memories and we will keep them close.
It was then time to hit the dance floor and everyone loved tossing their shapes.
Soon it was time to get together to go, but now Sue and Desi will spend the next few weeks continuing to celebrate this wonderful milestone, always hand in hand despite everything life has in store for them.
What a wonderful example for all of us.
There are still many years to celebrate Mom and Dad – Happy Birthday from all of us.
Kudos to Strictly star Tilly Ramsey this week after appalling comments about her appearance.
The 19-year-old, who does a fantastic job on the dance show with her professional partner Nikita Kuzmin, was inundated with messages of support after LBC radio presenter Steve Allen humiliated her live on the antenna.
Allen called the young woman a “chubby little thing.”
What a horrible and irresponsible thing to say about anyone, especially a young woman, who bravely chose to take on this challenge.
I think the 67-year-old needs to be wise and find more productive talking points.
